A number of original Joseph Jasgur photographs are up for auction from Grapefruit Moon Gallery right now. Astonishingly, along with winning the vintage photographs now being auctioned off via Grapefruit Moon, the winner owns the copyright for the images, meaning that the buyer will be legally allowed to reproduce and sell copies of the photographs [...]
Vintage Model Train Collection Photographs
Speaking of model trains, here’s a lovely set of five vintage photographs which show off a vintage model railroad collection. Each photograph measures 3 by 4 inches; dated August 1967 on the back. Images from Lynnstudios.
Vanity: Thy Name Is Woman
One of the things I love most about this vintage photo of a woman (obviously showing off her stockings in an erotic “French postcard” way) is the old boudoir doll on the vanity. You don’t see a lot of photos of boudoir dolls!
Does This Happen To You?
You see a vintage or antique photograph and you wish it were larger, more detailed… I want to see every photo, every scrap of ephemera, on the table in front of her! As a collector, I’m allowed to be that nosy, right? Photo via Lynnstudios.
Cross-Collectibles With Jack Carson — Contest Giveaway!
I often am asked, “What’s a cross collectible?” For me, the answer is, “Everything!” But technically speaking, a cross collectible is any antique or collectible which appeals to more than one kind of collector and therefore “crosses areas of collecting.” For example, this vintage promotional photo of classic film character actor Jack Carson. It obviously [...]
Antique Advertising In Japanese Travel Guide
More scans from that antique, turn of the century, Japan travel guide; these are advertisements found in the back of the book. S. Nishimura, “one price silk store,” founded in 1604. K. Kawata, another silk vendor ad, this one targeting “Ladies desiring Embroideries or Drawn Work.” K. Tamamura, “the leading photographer of Japan.” K. Kimbei, [...]
In Praise Of That 6 Degrees Thing: People & Other Flea Market Finds
This is a photo of my dad, aka the Grinnin’ half of Inherited Values own Antiquips, aka The Dean. It was taken at the Elkhorn Antique Flea Market by Urban Flea Marketer, the photo-blogger of You Bought WHAT?! From Who?. My dad’s story from her post: I mean, he was just cute. He was totally [...]
Vintage Tip For Organizing Photographs & Ephemera
This is a vintage snapshot or photograph storage tip from Edward O’Connor of Mineola, NY, I found published in Household Help, Fifth Series of Hints & Time Savers for the Home (offered by New York’s Picture Newspaper and published by News Syndicate Co., Inc., 1966). The tip reads: Before storing snapshots, classify them according to [...]
Ride A Cockhorse
The seller of this real photo photo postcard (RPPC) featuring two children with a rocking horse, says it’s from Central Pennsylvania, circa 1910s. You can’t help but wonder if the older sister is wishing she was still young enough to ride, rather than watch the younger child on the porch. *wink* Image via Lynnstudios.
What’s In Store? Real Photo Postcards, 1907
One of the most fascinating areas of collecting antique and vintage photographs are those images showing the interior of shops and retails stores — like these real photo postcards, circa 1907. Notice the well-dressed help and the tin tiles on the walls; the fine array of items, such as china in the display cases, the [...]
Tintypes, The History Of Photography & Antique Painted Photographic Backgrounds
Have you ever thought about the painted backgrounds in antique and vintage photographs? No? Me neither. Not until I read The Painted Backdrop: Behind the Sitter in American Tintype Photography, by Jim Linderman (with an essay by Kate Bloomquist), that is. In fact, the story of and between 19th century painters and American photography really [...]
Vintage Film Stars Fit Swimmingly Poolside (Silent Film News)
Because I’m rather well connected to Kellerman on the Internet, I was contacted by Nick Bannikoff, a graphic designer in Sydney, Australia, who had recently worked on the refurbished Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre in Marrickville. The centre is now finished, and Bannikoff was was hoping I could help him find quality images to be used [...]

Vintage Camera Shops
I was so thrilled when I spotted these vintage photos because it reminded me of this recent tweet by TheLarmy: All I have in the fridge is baking soda, camera film and boysenberry yogurt. Anyone got any recipes? I then knew it was the writing staff behind Cougar Town who wrote the tweet — because [...]
Why WWII Homefront Photos Are So Scarce
Magazines, like newspapers, provide context for periods of time — and that information provides great tips for collectors. In a wartime issue of Modern Woman Magazine, A Magazine Published By The Ice Industry (George M. Wessells, Publisher) a look why World War II home-front photographs are so scarce:

Bedroom Inspiration From Vintage Photo
All I really know about this image is that the lady is Mrs. Louis Bromfield, that the photo was taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt in 1942 — and that I love that headboard! The headboard appears to be hand painted or, if fabric, embroidered with the titles of her husband’s books. What a lovely idea! …If [...]
1949 Court Of Jewels Promotional Photo
This vintage wire photo was sent out to news outlets to promote the Harry Winston “The Court of Jewels” tour, which traveled to major American cities during 1949-1953. The traveling jewels tour showcased the Hope Diamond. From the back of the photo: New York: Lovely Margaret Wallace is just displaying her own charm enhanced by [...]
Antique Street Sweeper Photograph
I just wanted to share this photo of an antique street cleaner because it reminds me of one of my fondest memories. Every Forth Of July, I love watching not the parades, but my dad‘s face. He always has such joy watching the street cleaners or street sweepers clean up all the crepe paper, bullet [...]
