I’ve been reading your web sites which brought me to read you here today. I’ve been debating on entering the world of blogging on the behalf of our commen obsession with all thing’s vintage,weird and wonderful, but could not muster up the courage. I collect the same way. I finally started selling about a year ago however I really need to sell more or I might have to echo Bonnies comment of the possibility of an appearance on “Hoarders” Love your article

The chipped and cracked items, the big stuff too hard or expensive to ship, those tend to be “my” collectibles and the rest have to travel on to new homes. Sorry to see them go, but glad they got to visit for a time!

I collect in exactly the same way. Certain things just stike me the right way and I find a place for them. I’m with Uncle Atom- It’s too stressful too worry about mint condition or perfection. Old things are more charming when they show their age.
Sooner or later I am going to have to start selling though or I may end up on an episode of “Hoarders”

Plus similar cracked or non working vintage items. I love my vintage alarm clock, even though it always tells me it’s 7:59!

I’m with you Mitzi. I like patina, chips, cracks, or a little rust. An object that has lasted a long time but shows wear was loved and used. I decided years ago when I began collecting metal lunchboxes that I’d let others fight over the pristine, “mint” stuff. I have the same philosophy with the old cars I have collected over the years. These cars were meant to be driven and enjoyed. I don’t want something so perfect that I’m afraid to use it, where’s the fun in that?

I’m much the same way, Mitzi — only the collector in me wins much more often than 5%. (I use the rationalization of “Hey, I can write about that” to at least delay selling a lot. lol)

I adore that little yellow elephant of yours… I can’t really see his buddies too well (they might be as adorable), but those ruffled ears are sweet.

And I covet your Phrenology head! It would go next to our old Ouija board too, so it would be right at home if you ever wanted to sell it

You also have a lot of cool shelves; I’m always looking for cute shelves and other horizontal places to display my collections. (And extra wall pace too lol)
